Have y'all noticed that the choir at Grace Lutheran is
sounding quite a bit different than it used to??? I certainly have!
This
is an UNBELIEVABLY exciting time for the music program here in our little
church! We have grown by leaps and bounds over the last month(s), and
have consequently been able to plan some things for June that you won't want to
miss! With everything ranging from Whitney Houston, to "Rent,"
to rumored appearances by local drag celebrities(!), to psalm workshops and
voice masterclasses...this month is going to be a remarkable one for the music
program, and I cannot recommend highly enough getting involved with us for
some/all of it!
JOIN THE GRACE CHOIR!
Even one person can make a huge difference to
the kind and quality of music we are able to offer (part of why we've exploded
recently has been the addition of three new singers!). We currently have
a big need for BASS/BARITONE voices, and FEMALE voices.
Reading music is a plus, but is certainly not required...all are welcome,
regardless of skill level!
REHEARSALS
- Wed. 6-7pm, and Sun. 10-10:30am. Choir loft.
(Immediately following Sunday
service, lasting approx. 20min)
Singing the psalm can be one of the more disorienting parts
of the service, which is unfortunate since the text is usually some of the more
beautiful! For approximately twenty minutes after service on June 16th,
the Music Minister will lead a short workshop on how to make this part of the
liturgy spiritually fulfilling instead of weird. ALL ARE WELCOME!
6/23 - Guest artists from Bayou City Theatrics
The Grace Choir will be joined by members of Bayou City Theatrics for a musical offering of "Love Heals" from the
musical Rent. New choir members welcome!
6/30 - Anthem for PRIDE
In honor of Houston's Pride celebration, the Grace Choir
will be performing an amazing anthem written in response to the assassination
of Harvey Milk. New choir members welcome!
7/7 - Singing Masterclass
9:15-10:15am, in the sanctuary
So many people love singing but are afraid to join choir
because they think they don't have a good voice, or think they can't sing!
For an hour before service on July 7th, Houston Grand Opera musician Heath
Martin will be giving a masterclass on how to make a joyful noise unto the
lord! ALL ARE WELCOME, regardless of skill level or prior
experience!
