It’s May, and the cross project is moving right along. We are done with the “paper offering” part of
the process, and are now ready to move on to the next phase – giving small
crosses to be bound to the larger cross.
Just to be absolutely clear, this offering of an art cross for El Buen
Pastor’s altar is being done in support of Rene Garcia’s personal ministry to
the people of El Buen Pastor. This
project is not a part of an “official” ministry of Grace, but rather a way that
we can let the people of that church know that we are keeping them – and Rene –
in our prayers.
These small crosses, wired to the decorated cross base, represent our
individual acknowledgment that we are ALL bound together in the name of Jesus
Christ – no matter where we live, no matter what language we speak, no matter
how much or how little we possess. We
are all children of the Living God, right?
Of course, right!
You are encouraged to bring a small cross (either purchased, or
handmade, or donated from your personal collection, and measuring no more than
4 inches) on Sunday, May 26, when the cross will be wired and ready to receive
your cross offerings during worship.
If you wish to make a cross, but don’t have adequate supplies or ideas,
we will be having two opportunities to make crosses together at Grace:
Sunday, May 19, Noon
Sunday, May 26, 9 am.
All basic supplies will be provided – including trimmed piano keys and
striker bars from the same church piano we used as a cross base. If you have small treasures you’d like to
attach to your cross offering, bring them along, but we’ll have paints, beads,
buttons, ribbon, and all sorts of things to make your crosses one-of-a-kind.
Thank you all so much for your enthusiastic support of this
project! As always, it is a pleasure and
an honor to work with the creative people who make Grace a home for all.
Paz,
Laura Bourdo
