We train new direct youth workers twice a year. These are those adults who can make the most serious commitment to the youth- this is a hard-core volunteer position! The volunteers who do this work must be 25 years old, pass a background check and references and recieve training in active listening, good boundaries, crisis prevention, drug abuse and mental health issues. Direct volunteers must commit to being a Grace Place at least two nights a month for at least a year. These volunteers are the core group that help Montrose Grace Place nights run well, they eat dinners with the youth and mentor them.
For the right people, the payoff is amazing! You get to know the youth very well, and really make a connection, and a difference in their lives.
