Montrose Grace Place Holds Clothing Closet Work Day

Montrose Grace Place, a program serving the homeless youth population of Houston, will hold a work day on July 16th from 10 am to 2 pm. The day is focusing on organizing donations made to the program’s clothes closet.

“Amazing and wonderful people have donated an over-whelming abundance of clothes to our homeless youth,” said Lura Groen, executive director of Grace Place. “Literally over-whelming, we are overflowing with bags and boxes and more bags of gently used clothes, and now it's time to sort them all!

Grace Place serves homeless youth age 14-21 as part of a weekly Thursday night program that provides meals, clothing and constructive activities. Additionally, the program offers a “talk time” designed to assist youth in developing decision making skills. Volunteers for the Thursday night program must undergo training and a background check, but Groen says that anyone is welcomed to assist with the work day. “Since this is an event with no youth present, no background check is required. And it's a perfect first-time volunteer opportunity for you or a friend to get your feet wet.”

Although the program has received an abundance of clothing donations the closet is running low on some items, specifically there is an immediate need for new underwear, socks, and hygiene items such as condoms, prenatal vitamins, sunscreen, bug spray, and wet wipes.

The work day will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, which hosts Montrose Grace Place. Grace Lutheran Church is located at 2515 Waugh Dr, Houston, TX 77006.
