Meet Matt Proulx: Interim Music Minister

Dear people of Grace:

As your interim music minister, I wanted to take a few moments to share a little of my background and to thank you all for so warmly welcoming me into the Grace worshipping community.

I am a native Houstonian and graduate of the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) which has always kept me close to home with fellow musicians and artists here in the Montrose area. In fact, before my career became primarily church music, I was teaching Choir nearby at Lamar and Lanier.

My degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education lead me into 12 years of teaching Choir and music and singing with the Houston Grand Opera as a regular bass in the chorus. I've always been involved in music at church since I was young and I thank God for the gifts of music, voice and song he bestowed upon me to share with others...Deo gratias!

My love for music and teaching (and learning) keeps me ever inspired and involved in teaching voice and piano skills to children and adults of all ages, for which I will be available here at Grace if any of you are interested.

I am also a divorced father of two very talented children, Ryan, 17, and Megan, 14, whom I can't believe are both racing through their teenage years at light speed. I feel very blessed with the special relationship I have with them and my ex-wife and our accepting families.

In addition, the friendly reception and acceptance here has made me feel very comfortable and right at home with all of you. Thank you, Pastor Lura, Daniel, Barbara, faithful choir members, and all of the Grace family for embracing and entrusting me with our musical direction. I very much look forward to our collaboration, our music and our worship together.

Peace,
Matt Proulx
