Houston Pastors Respond to Deadly Religious Homophobia in Uganda

Houston Pastors, including Grace's Pastor Lura Groen, issued an open "video postcard" to President Barack Obama, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the State Department on February 20th calling for increased state department involvement in efforts to curb the ongoing genocide of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Ugandians.

The Pastors also called for all faith leaders to use their pulpits to distance themselves from members of the religious right who have spurred on the violence in Uganda. Said Elder Joseph W. Tolton of Rehoboth Temple Christ Conscious Church "Use this moment in time to establish a revival of the social justice witness of Jesus. Use this most unfortunate circumstance to articulate a new understanding. While there may be room for differences around theology there is no tolerance in Christianity for murder or the criminalization of Homosexuality."
