Bring Your Gay Teen To Church Day is February 20th

February 20th is being celebrated as “Bring Your Gay Teen to Church Day” by 19 Houston area congregations, including Grace Lutheran Church

For more than a decade Grace has been a “Reconciling in Christ” congregation: a church that welcomes all people regardless of race, gender, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity. But for many people the word “church” still brings to mind a place where Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people are not welcomed, celebrated or loved.

This can be particularly true for LGBT teens, whose ideas of church are shaped by peers, the media or bad experiences with other congregations. The parents of those teens are then faced with a dilemma: risk exposing their child to a church environment which may not be friendly, or rob their child of growing up with a faith tradition.

“Bring Your Gay Teen to Church Day” is a day of intentional welcoming, an effort by participating congregations to tell not only teens, but also their parents, that they are loved and wanted.

If you know the parents of LGBT teen, invite them to Grace on the 20th—with or without their teen. If you have a LGBT teen in your life, invite them.
