“Love the Lord your God with all your Heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. And you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
How have you been loving God with your mind lately? I know many of you love God with your minds individually, but I think it is time to step up our congregational mind-worship! We haven’t had great Sunday School attendance, so we’re shaking things up a bit.
On Sunday mornings, at 9 am in the parlor, we’ll have a Christian Accountability group. This will be a time for members to ask each other- “How did you do this week, living your faith?” We'll be announcing more details about this upcoming program soon.
On the first Sunday of the month, after church, we’ll do “Sermon Talk-Back”. Together, we’ll dig deeper into the Scripture readings of the day, and you’ll have a chance to ask questions about the sermon, share what you see in the text, and yes, argue back with me. (I know you well, dear Gracians!) I encourage you to bring a bag lunch, or snacks to share, to keep our bodies happy! The first "Sermon Talk-Back is this Sunday, September 5!
Our big study time, our big time to love God with our minds, will be Wednesday evening after Vespers. We’ll do different 6 and 7 week series at this time, and you can come to all of them, commit to try just one, or choose them as they interest you. Some will be Bible Study, some will be looking at contemporary issues through the lens of faith, and one will even be theatrical!
Check out this article for more information about the first of this series: “Our Bodies, Broken and Whole” which will be a discussion of disability rights from a faith perspective, culminating in a celebration of White Cane Day in October.
You all have some mighty minds among you. Come, bring them to our God, to worship, to love, to be filled up, and to learn together!
Pastor Lura
